The image of Brazil during the Second World War
12/01/2009 — 01/31/2010
Centro Cultural da Justiça Eleitoral, Rio de Janeiro, RJ
Curated by Jair de Souza and Maurício Lissovsky, the exhibition A imagem do Brasil no tempo da Segunda Guerra [The Image of Brazil During The Second World War] took place at Centro Cultural da Justiça Eleitoral, Rio de Janeiro, from December, 2009 to January 2010. The objective was to present a multimedia panorama of Brazil’s participation in the greatest world conflict of the twentieth century.
The installation revolved around the contrast between three graphic registers of the period: the official photographs taken by The Estado Novo [New State], under the leadership of Getulio Vargas, the informal photos made by Life Magazine, in accordance with the North American perspective of integrating Brazil into the block of allies and finally, the popular point of view presented by the caricatures of Nassara and J. Carlos.
