Oi Futuro, Rio de Janeiro, RJ
More than an exhibition, Carlos Vergara made of HÜZÜN a collective project around his work. With the participation of the artists Gustavo Moura and the art critic Luiz Camillo Osório, Vergara showed in Oi Futuro, in Rio de Janeiro, a series of photographs and monotypes developed during two trips to Turkey, the first in 2006 and the second in 2008. The main focus of these forays was Capadocia, with its early churches carved into sandstone and underground dwellings loaded with the history of Christianity that began in the first century. Istambul, formerly Constantinople, also had some of its markets, minarets, mosques and ancient churches photographed. This raw material collected on site was taken to the studio and prepared for the exhibition. After digital manipulation, the photographs taken during the trips took several forms : prints on metacrilato, projections, 3D lenticular and 3D in real space, results of the intersection of images in space. The exhibition also featured monotypes on scarves that carry physical traces of the architecture and geography of this unique place.
