MENAS.
The right of the wrong. The wrong of the right.
03/16/2010 — 06/27/2010
Museu da Língua Portuguesa, São Paulo, SP
According to the grammatical norms of Brazilian Portuguese, the word menas does not officially exist and is considered incorrect. It cannot be found in dictionaries or in the Portuguese Spelling Guide. It has acquired such notoriety that it has now earned a place in the title of an exhibition at the Museum of the Portuguese Language. MENAS, the exhibition, challenges the conventional right-versus-wrong approach to language. Through interactive games, thought-provoking reflections, diverse expressions, and literary art, it ignites a debate that questions established norms and helps bridge the gap between high and popular culture. Visitors are invited to see Brazilian Portuguese in a new light. Less is more.
