Leda Catunda - Recent Paintings
08/10/2013 — 10/06/2013
Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, RJ

Recent Paintings was the name of the exhibition by the artist Leda Catunda, which was on display at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. With strong and vibrant colors, the works in the exhibition were made with acrylic paint on canvas and/or fabric. In some works, however, there was the introduction of other elements, such as plastic and velvet. The result was a bulky and elaborate surface, which went beyond the pictorial plane. The works were produced between 2010 and 2013, in large formats. According to the artist, the work "referred to the issue of the subject's identification with some kind of image." The curator of the exhibition, Jacopo Crivelli Visconti, explained the concept of the show: "logos, images, colors, symbols, numbers: all the visual repertoire of sport appeared in these works, with each element competing with each other, trying to overpower the others, to fill every inch of available space," concluded Visconti.
