Public Sector Artistic Residency 2019-2020
August/2019 — December/2020
Tribunal de Justiça do Estado de São Paulo
RASP is an art residency program that involves visual artists in Brazilian public agencies to develop processes and/or objects in collaboration with the employees of these institutions.
Daniel Lima is the third artist invited to the Public Sector Artistic Residency [RASP] and was invited to work at the Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo.
The artist had the collaboration of Lais Ribeiro, Felipe Teixeira and Fernando Sato in carrying out the residency activities. After 3 months of visits to the 2nd Special Court for Children and Youth, the artist and his collaborators presented the proposal to create a map of the legal system of the city of São Paulo. This proposal arose from the need to understand the practical and conceptual dynamics of the legal system related to children and youth in Brazil. To create the map, a working group was formed with the team of professionals from the 2nd Court for Children and Youth. Together with the team, a pedagogical process was created to share knowledge through meetings that served for transcriptions, notes and systematizations.
Between 2020 and 2022, the Covid-19 pandemic has kept populations around the world in quarantine and radically changed the way professionals in various fields work. The exceptional circumstances did not prevent the Artistic Residency from continuing, but it did impose a new perspective on research and work with professionals in the public sector. After the pandemic, the artist decided to make a podcast accompanied by cartographies and thematic teasers.
